Blink-182; Reformed Rock

A hiatus in the music industry can mean several different things. It could be a nice way to say “We are tired and need some time off”. It could mean “Creative differences”. It could mean “We hate each other and want to quit but our management won’t let us”. You can speculate why Mark, Tom & Travis of Blink-182 went on hiatus back in 2005, but they are back again with a new album and on tour. This of course is not the first tour since the three members got back together. They hit the road on a reunion tour in 2009/2010 and I was in (then named) GM Place for that show and it was one of the best arena rock shows I have ever seen. Call it nostalgia if you want, but I was up the entire concert singing along to the songs I grew up with and laughing at all the dick jokes.

During their time away from Blink, bassist Mark Hoppus & drummer Travis Barker formed +44 while guitarists Tom DeLonge focused his efforts on Angels & Airwaves. I jumped on the wagon & became a huge Angels & Airwaves fan. The music they released was a world apart from anything Blink-182 had released in the past while +44 was more of the same. As you may know, Barker went on to tour with the late DJ-AM, released a star studded “solo” album & even joined Lil Wayne on his I Am Still Music tour earlier this year. Despite taking different roads while away from Blink, the guys are back together and their legions of fans could not be happier.

With their first studio album Neighbourhoods coming out in September the tour is out on a long North American tour and they are once again coming to Vancouver on August 31st. This time they are playing at Rogers Arena (same place I know, but the name has changed).
