What can I say, I love Soundgarden. By no means am I a die hard fan, but I do love them. The whole presentation is amazing, and to top off everything, Chris Cornell’s voice is legendary.
Soundgarden was lumped in with the Grunge scene back in the nineties. Although they are far from that Nirvana sound, they do definitely bring that drudging crunch so familiar with the movement. Cornell and team pumped out epic pieces that left crowds battered, bruised and demanding more. As such they made a name for themselves during this time as a must see live act.
Check out this live video:
Their sound communicated a deep, tortured poetry that could stir the soul of any music loving individual. Songs like Outshine, Rooster and Rusty Cage became staples for the band. Boasting big sound, big vocals and cryptic lyrics. The group was on the top of their game, and looked to be taking the world by storm.
Shortly into their success, the band suffered many internal conflicts. It wasn’t long before the band decided to separate. As of April 9, 1997 Soundgarden was no more. This left a hole in the heart of many fans. They felt they had lost their band. It was a sad time.
Chris Cornell was the only one who really went on to do something post-breakup. He released a slew of solo albums and collaborated with many artists on their own work. But it never seemed like he was happy. It never seemed like Chris was where he wanted to be, and the music reflected that.
After many years, we were blessed with an announcement, Soundgarden would finally be reuniting. Personally I nearly lost my fucking mind. The time had come to dust off my stomping boots and mosh with the masters. I was extremely excited. A series of shows were announced, along with a local Vancouver date (July 29th, 2011 – Soundgarden with Queens of the Stone Age at Rogers Arena). To add to that their were talks about a new album on the horizon. Excitement swept through the concert community.
So they are back. They have shows, some of which have already gone down, and a new album possibly in the works. To me this is heaven. Well not just to me, but to thousands and thousands of fans out there.
Now I don’t know about you, but I have my ticket in hand and I am ready to rock until I drop. This will be an epic night. I have been waiting patiently for this for over 14 years. If you do not have your ticket, I would advise getting one. From the video footage I have seen, this will be an unbelievable show.
