Clapton Is Coming

On February 25th, Slowhand himself will be gracing the stage at Rogers Arena with his beautiful blues-rock style. It has has been four long years since he has blessed our fair city, which means the anticipation is through the rood. In addition Los Lobos is opening the night. This will make for an amazing performance.

The current tour is in support of Eric Clapton’s newest album, the self titled Clapton (purchase here). With its release in September, it has been received well by the music community. A compilation of new pieces and some delectable cover songs thrown in, this album makes for a great listen. It peaked on the US Billboard chart at 6th, and 7th in the UK Album Charts. Not bad for a man in his mid sixties.

The show in Vancouver will be an epic display of guitar mastery, mixed with the soothing blues rhythms Mr.Clapton is known for. Never have I heard of anyone being disappointed by one of his shows. In the few times I have been able to catch his performances, I have been blown away by his skills, he definitely carries an effortless mastery that should be enjoyed by all. I would expect the show next week to be no different, leaving everyone who experiences it in complete awe.

Clapton didn’t exactly leave me in awe last time, in 2007. While he still can display a few riffs, I found him to be giving the bare minimum with solos, and letting the (excellent) band pad things out.
