ONE ESKIMO

This four piece ensemble lives in a world of rich textured dreamscapes. Their sound is comparable to early Phil Colins, with a certain Maroon 5 vocal quality. The group hails from London, England, and has been in cohoots since 2004. There self titled album, is a delite to listen to and offers some really mature instrumentals but still offers a playful politeness. Check them out Venue on October 13th (BUY TICKETS), they definitely make for great listening.

If you have not had the pleasure to listen to this gypsy punk band, then you need to fill your playlist with everything they have released. Their unique style of polka, punk, has been tearing through the airwaves since 1999. They are playing 3 shows at the Commodore Ballroom between October 22nd and 24th, two of which are sold out. So if you haven’t gone out to get a ticket, rush out now, it will be a truly unique concert experience. (BUY TICKETS)

DONAVON FRANKENREITER

This man has captured the laid back feel of his pal Jack Johnson and intertwined his raspy soul filled vocals. If you are a fan of Mr.Johnson then check this guy out. He is far more interesting, and has a greater depth in his songs. This show will be great solo or with your significant other. His voice is inviting and passionate, and addictive. He is playing at the Commodore Ballroom on November 7th, check him out (BUY TICKETS).

JASON COLLETT

He is an active member of Broken Social Scene. The solo material is jangely and poetic. Everything put forth to date is honest and catchy. These are all great reasons to check him out, but the bottom line is his music is really intriguing. Its not overly complex, but at the same time it says so much and easily identifiable. Check him out at the Biltmore Cabaret on November 26th (BUY TICKETS).

RObyn Bands To Watch; Part 5 Concert Addicts

ROBYN

If you like digital universes built with kick-ass female vocals, then Robyn is where it is at. Here playful, baby voice is innocent, but don’t let it fool you. Sometimes she strays from her dancier pieces and spits mad fire. Her lyrics are solid and she never takes herself too seriously. This Swedish delight has been in the game since 1991, but I figured she needed fresh light shone her direction. Her show at Venue in Vancouver on November 18th, is sold out. But this shouldn’t stop you from filling your play list with bunches of her songs.
